Your United Way is providing services to help prevent and/or reduce theimpact of disabilities by creating awareness about risky behavior choices. United Way also is funding assessment programs to diagnose disabling conditions early in infants to age three years old. For people with disabling conditions, United Way is funding case and care management to facilitate access to services that help people with disabilities reside at home or in community settings, succeed academically, and achieve the highest level of employment. Additionally, since communication disorders impact 15 percent of the population, your United Way is funding speech and hearing treatment services for children and adults. We're working to provide information to young adults and families to discourage health threatening behaviors, to assess babies early to prevent or minimize disabling conditions, to help physically disabled people navigate health care and community services and to provide treatment for hearing- and speech-impaired people that facilitates education, employment and quality of life. Our funding will support dissemination of information to young adults and families that discourage risky behaviors that could result in chronic illness as well as remove service barriers for chronically ill people through care and service coordination, home health care for the uninsured and medical expense assistance. We're also providing information to encourage terminally ill people and their caregivers to seek hospice care and other home-based services and support. And we're funding programs that provide hospice and palliative care for uninsured people who are not eligible for Medicare or Medicaid. |
