More than 266,330 seniors live in Cuyahoga County and that number is expected to grow over the next decade. Of our 65-plus population, 64 percent said that they have at least one disability and 44 percent of those also livei n poverty. United Way is working to keep our seniors independent, particularly those with low incomes and/or disabilities, by funding senior centers where meals, socialization and supportive services are available. Your United Way also is partnering with other community resources to offer transportation and address other access barriers. We're helping to provide services that will preserve independence for seniors and others, such as transportation and community support with meals and socialization. We're working to provide community-wide disaster prevention and preparedness education as well as relief services to victims of disaster. We're providing aid to help refugees, immigrants and repatriated people settle into their new community by helping them to navigate community resources and language classes. |
