How United Way Works

United Way of Greater Cleveland supports 202 programs that help more than 400,000 children and adults in the Greater Cleveland area each year.

United Way provides a simple and efficient way for people to contribute to charities. Through just one gift, you can touch the lives of thousands through programs that provide a spectrum of services. United Way ensures the accountability of your gift through the Citizen Review process. Both the Citizen Review committee and the United Way Board of Directors are made up of volunteers from the community.

Each year hundreds of experienced volunteers, who are donors themselves, spend hundreds of hours visiting agencies and seeing firsthand how people and programs are working to improve lives. Through these visits and a thorough review of agency budgets, they make decisions about the best use of United Way dollars.

Here in Cleveland, as well as across the country, health and human services budgets are being squeezed while demand increases. To provide adequate assistance to those in need throughout our community, United Way needs your support, now more than ever. Even a small donation can help in big ways.

We are all connected in our community. Join us and together we can make lasting changes and advance the common good.
