| INITIATIVE: High School Transition Program Doing well academically in school and staying in school are absolutely essential to the future success of children and the community in which they live. The High School Transition Program was initiated to improve the declining graduation rate in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD). To address this problem, a curriculum was developed by CMSD teachers and guidance counselors to assist 8th grade students in making a successful transition into high school and support them through the 9th grade to become engaged in academics and more knowledgeable about student responsibilities, graduation requirements and career pathways. The initiative also assists parents to remain involved with their children's academic progress during the 8th and 9th grades. PROGRESS TO DATE: The High School Transition Program is in its second year of implementation in all 85 K-8th grade schools and all high schools in the About 1,000 students and their families attended the CMSD's Career and College Fair this year, with 75 high schools and colleges in attendance. |
