Campaign Tips

Young Leaders is a group of young professionals who have an interest in supporting our community through United Way. Young Leaders are working to create increased patterns of awareness and annual giving from young professionals in their twenties and thirties that will help grow the roster of United Way donors and volunteers over the next few years.

Get your colleagues involved
The most effective way of recruiting Young Leader donors and members is through face-to-face, peer-to-peer requests. Appoint a respected leader within your organization to directly ask young professionals to join Young Leaders.

Days of Caring
Promote volunteerism among your young professionals! United Way offers a unique, fun and easy-to-manage volunteer experience. If you are interested in coordinating a group volunteer project, just contact your United Way representative and he or she will set everything up for you. Volunteerism educates donors on where their money goes and gives them a tangible reason to donate. Learn more about Days of Caring

Keep connected with e-mail communications
Obtain a distribution list (e-mail addresses) from your human resources department of all the young professionals at your organization. United Way and Young Leaders use electronic means of communication to inform young professionals about our programs and upcoming events. Asking for a distribution list will enable United Way to contact your Young Leaders members and keep them updated with the happenings of the group.

Recognition or Leadership Lunch
Ask your CEO to host a lunch for all Young Leaders members that either currently give at the leadership level ($1,000 annually or above) or that have potential to give at this level. Ask the CEO to speak at this lunch about the importance of community involvement and United Way. The CEO may explain why he or she feels it is important to be involved with the United Way and how he or she became involved. The lunch may also be used as an opportunity to show the United Way video, distribute literature, promote special events, etc. In addition to creating awareness, this lunch can also be used as a chance to recognize those who are already active members of Young Leaders at your organization. The goal of the lunch would be to increase giving from this group, as well as promote awareness of United Way in the community.

Competitions
Who doesn't like a good competition? Competitions can be held with neighboring organizations or similar organizations (ex: Bank X v. Bank Y). Competitions can be based on Young Leaders membership numbers, dollars raised, number of leadership donors, percentage of participation or any other creative idea you can come up with.

Get Involved
Be a part of the Young Leaders momentum by volunteering as a member of the Young Leaders Cabinet or Special Events Committee
