United Way of Greater Cleveland
2009/2010 Annual Meeting
The 2009 United Way Campaign finished in a flurry of activity and last-minute contributions that resulted in a stretch goal of $40,000,000 achieved. Campaign Co-Chairs David Hooker, Thompson Hine LLP Managing Partner, and Patrick Mullin, Deloitte Managing Partner, announced the Campaign result, exactly $40,009,227.95, to more than 1,100 United Way Annual Meeting attendees on Friday, March 5, 2010.
Sandra Pianalto, United Way Chairman of the Board and Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland President and CEO, informed the audience that her term as United Way Board Chair is ending but she vowed to continue her United Way volunteer service. She was inducted as a Life Director to the Board. Pianalto introduced Terrance Egger, The Plain Dealer Publisher, President and CEO, as her successor.
"Every campaign presents its own challenges. But this one has been one incredible journey!" said Pianalto when introducing Hooker and Mullin. "Pat and David committed themselves tirelessly to raising every dollar possible for our community and they have some great successes to report to us. Their theme was, "now more than ever" we must meet the great needs in this community. But I think a better theme would have been, "when the going gets tough the tough get going," because that's exactly what happened during this campaign year. They led this campaign with such dedication and caring, that it is indeed a labor of love for our Greater Cleveland community," she said.
The meeting was filled with excitement and energy. Alexander (Sandy) Cutler, Eaton Corporation Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, received the Volunteer of the Year Award recognizing his extraordinary volunteer service to United Way and our community. Cindy Andrews, IBM Education Industry Business Development Executive, was named Community Partner for her commitment to promoting education through facilitating IBM technology grants for more than a decade and as an adviser on the John K. Mott Youth Fund Distribution Committee.
