United Way of Greater Cleveland CEO to Speak at City Club

Nonprofit executive to discuss the changing landscape of philanthropy

Cleveland (February 13, 2017) United Way of Greater Cleveland President and CEO August Napoli is delivering an address – Uniting: The Power of Philanthropy – at the City Club of Cleveland Friday, February 17, 2017 at 12 p.m.

“The concept of federated giving, a fundraising effort managed by a single organization that in turn distributes the contributed funds to several nonprofit agencies, was developed here in Cleveland in 1913,” said Napoli. “There’s no better place than the City Club, another century-old establishment, to discuss the future of philanthropy.”

Napoli joined United Way in June 2016 with more than 40 years experience in nonprofit leadership within the healthcare, faith-based and art sectors. He joined the organization at a time when crowdfunding increased in popularity, community issues and causes are more abundant and nonprofits across the country are reevaluating how to best serve their communities.

“Cleveland is one of the most generous communities in the country,” said Napoli. “At the City Club, I’ll share insight into how giving has evolved in Greater Cleveland and what that means for United Way and every other philanthropic organization in our region.”
