As our Cleveland Cavaliers prepare to challenge the Golden State Warriors with hopes of winning the 2015 NBA championship, two United Way CEOs along with their young professional groups have made a friendly wager. United Way of Greater Cleveland President and CEO Bill Kitson invites United Way of the Bay Area CEO Anne Wilson to participate in a friendly bet.
“We’re confident the Cavaliers are going to bring Cleveland its first major sports championship in more than 50 years,” said Kitson. “But we know the Warriors represent a fierce challenge, and in the spirit of community competition, we are making a friendly wager with our counterpart in the Bay Area.”

If LeBron James and the Cavs win the ring, the Bay Area staff will drape themselves in wine and gold the day after the NBA Finals are decided.

“We know how sports unite a community, especially the Greater Cleveland community, and we stand beside our Cavs as they strive to break a long dry spell in Cleveland sports history,” said Kitson. “Cavaliers/Quicken Loans Arena President Leonard Komoroski serves on our Board of Directors and is a member of our campaign leadership team. Our friendly wager is a gentle way to show our support and elevate awareness of our work.”

If Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors win the NBA Championship, United Way of Greater Cleveland Young Leaders along with staff members will wear Golden State’s team colors of royal blue and gold.

“At United Way and throughout the Bay Area, we know there is Strength in Numbers and we take great pride in our sports teams as heroes on the court and off,” said Wilson. “Our whole United Way team of staff, volunteers, donors and advocates, including Warriors General Counsel David Kelly, are thrilled to rally around our Golden State Warriors and we know they’ll be bringing home the Larry O’Brien championship trophy back to our great community.”

Pending the championship game, United Way of Greater Cleveland and United of the Bay Area have both agreed to post photos wearing the opposing team’s colors on social media for the nation to see.
