United Way Promotes Healthy Lifestyles

img_ow_ss_stayhealthyCameron Helmick admits he’s an all or nothing kind of guy. In addition to enjoying large meals, he had a habit of drinking up to two gallons of milk after those meals and eating a bunch or two of bananas every day. He weighed 430 pounds, but thought he was eating healthy.

Just over a year ago, his physician at Neighborhood Family Practice (NFP) diagnosed Cameron with chronic health problems including obesity, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and asthma and recommended he participate in their United Way funded wellness program.

The NFP wellness coordinator helped Cameron make gradual changes by learning about portion control and healthy levels of exercise. A reformed and 40-pounds-lighter Cameron now shares that knowledge with others and strives to maintain a daily balance of good mental, physical and spiritual health.

You can help others just like Cameron. Please give today.
