Through Geauga’s Aging and Disability Resource Center, Individuals Can Live Independently

In Geauga County, neighbors help neighbors. No one embodies this spirit quite as well as the donors who support United Way Services of Geauga County. Their help allows us to make critical, life-changing resources available to those in our community who need it most.

Ralph is one of our neighbors who has benefited from United Way’s services. Ralph lives with a disability and a medical condition that requires numerous hospital stays and treatments, and he lives alone on a fixed income. As a result, Ralph depends on United Way Services of Geauga County’s Aging and Disability Resource Center to help him meet his basic needs, including making sure he has access to nutritious food. One of the biggest barriers to meeting these needs is transportation in a rural county. The Aging and Disability Resource Center has provided him with transit passes and helped him apply for reduced rates with Geauga transit. In addition to helping him with transportation to access food resources, United Way has also provided ALDI gift cards to help supplement his income towards food.

The Aging and Disability Resource Center also helped Ralph navigate the transition from Medicaid to Medicare. He was able to review his options in a way that helped him find an affordable and quality plan – one that included the healthcare services and prescription coverage he needed. Ralph was also enrolled in the Extra Help Program to help him with out-of-pocket prescription costs.

Thanks to ongoing support and services, Ralph now lives independently in his home with access to quality health care, food, and transportation.
