Marc S. Byrnes, Chairman Emeritus of Oswald Companies, was presented an Award of Lifetime Achievement and named a Life Director at United Way of Greater Cleveland’s annual luncheon on September 30. The award was presented by Paul Dolan, United Way’s Board Chair.
“The reinvention of United Way of Greater Cleveland has been a journey of more than six years. But there’s someone who stands out on that journey as one of the transformation’s founding fathers and that’s Marc Byrnes,” said Paul. “Marc led United Way’s Board through the early, difficult conversations about the profound changes that were needed. And he’s been there every step of the way since then.”
Marc has been a faithful and enthusiastic director of United Way of Greater Cleveland since 2005, with numerous contributions as a member of the Executive, Resource Development, Planned Giving Advisory, and Strategic Planning Committee, as well as leadership roles as 2008 Campaign Co-Chair, United Way of Greater Cleveland Board Chair 2016-2017, Immediate Past Board Chair since 2018, and United Way of Greater Cleveland Philanthropic Fund Board Chair since 2019.
Marc has made extraordinary contributions to the community and those in need, motivating United Way to honor him as Volunteer of the Year in 2011. In 2018, United Way established the Marc S. Byrnes Award for Community Service recognizing him as the exemplar of outstanding leadership commitment to United Way of Greater Cleveland and many other non-profit organizations.
“Marc is a distinguished leader with an unfailing enthusiasm that’s contagious,” said Paul. “He has a heart with an enormous capacity to love his community and his family with everything he has…and then some.”
United Way of Greater Cleveland is very grateful for the outstanding dedication of Marc S. Byrnes.
