Cuyahoga County

county_cuyahoga

In Cuyahoga County, approximately 416,000 people live in or near poverty. Local poverty rates are highest in neighborhoods that were redlined. This federal policy denied residents of ethnic and racial minority neighborhoods access to credit from 1935 until the passage of the Fair Housing Act in 1968. Its ramifications are seen today in redlined neighborhoods’ high rates of food insecurity, housing instability, poor health outcomes, low educational attainment, and subpar wages.

Geauga also has a significant population of Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) families whose income is above the Federal Poverty level but not high enough to make ends meet.
