The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for administering benefits and providing services to veterans, their families, and survivors. If you are a veteran and rely on these services, you may have heard news reports about federal proposals that could change some programs.
What’s Happening with Veterans’ Benefits?
The Veterans Health Administration is the country’s largest integrated healthcare system and provides care at almost 1,400 facilities. In Cuyahoga and Geauga counties, there are nearly 70,000 veterans eligible for benefits for themselves and their families.
In addition to healthcare, the benefits include education opportunities, disability compensation, home loans, life insurance, and more. While no changes have been made to the benefits, the federal government has proposed eliminating more than 80,000 jobs at the Veterans Health Administration, which could potentially impact the benefits available to veterans.
