Hosting a Workplace Campaign
HOSTING A WORKPLACE CAMPAIGN
As a company dedicated to philanthropy and fostering a positive culture, we thank you for hosting a giving campaign in support of United Way of Greater Cleveland!
With your United Way workplace campaign, you will fulfill corporate social responsibility objectives, build staff morale, and stand alongside 500+ local companies also supporting United Way. More importantly, a workplace campaign will allow your employees to help your organization make an impact through donations, volunteerism, and collective impact.

QUICK DOWNLOADS
- Read the ECM Guide & Checklist.
- Meet with your United Way Account Manager.
Together, you’ll review Campaign Best Practices and complete the Workplace Campaign Planning Timeline, Workplace Campaign DonorPoint Build Guide, and Workplace Campaign Communication Planner. - Set up your online giving site.
Following this meeting, your Account Manager will provide the Employee File Template. You will complete and submit this file to set up the back-end of your campaign. Our Electronic Platform Guide is an excellent resource to help you. - Assemble a Campaign Committee.
A robust campaign committee will help engage different departments and expand your reach within your organization. - Engage Leadership.
Not only should your leadership team be represented in the committee, but you should also consider asking one to serve as Campaign Chair. A Campaign Chair leads by example, helps encourage employees to participate, and sends special messaging. - Set a campaign goal.
Set a campaign goal that your campaign team and employees can rally behind. Determine your goals based on the previous year’s performance, opportunities, and challenges. - Plan activities & prizes.
There are so many special events you can host In-Person or Virtually to engage your employees! Some events, like Auctions and Raffles can run throughout the campaign. Don't be afraid to get creative! Consider also offering Prizes and Incentives! - Hosting a raffle? Use our Baskets Form. Hosting an auction? Use our Auction Items Template.
- Host a kickoff!
Host a company meeting, announce your goals, and share the ‘way’ of United Way with your colleagues. Welcome a United Way speaker to join your kick-off, or play a campaign video to inspire colleagues. Access Campaign Videos Here - Communicate regular updates.
Connect with the United Way mission by sharing flyers about United Way 211 as well as our Housing and Workforce Initiatives. Hang Impact Posters throughout your office and share information about the ALICE Population and What Your Dollars Can Do. - Make the Ask.
People give to people. Remind your team about the power of a small give. Engage your CEO and Campaign Chair in your communication strategy, having them send special messages between regular emails! And don’t forget to engage special interest groups like Leadership Donors, Emerging Leaders, and Retirees. - Share on social media.
Take photos at your campaign activities and post them across your social media platforms, tagging @UnitedWayCLE! It’s a great way to highlight your company’s philanthropy and staff engagement. Your leadership can also record and post updates on your intranet. Check out our Social Media Toolkit for more ideas!
- Complete pledges.
Collect any Paper Pledge Forms and remind your colleagues to get their pledges in electronically or via Stock Giving if they haven’t yet! Follow up on Corporate Contributions or employee matches before calculating the results. - Report results to United Way.
Communicate with your United Way account manager regarding the final totals of your United Way workplace campaign. Use United Way's Report Envelope to submit paper pledge forms, checks, and cash. - Announce your results.
Shout from the rooftops! Announce your outstanding results to all employees. Share your success on your social media channels and in other employee communications. - Thank donors.
Send personalized thank you cards or gifts to donors – even better if leadership recognizes donors. Highlight donors of a certain level on a team call or monthly e-newsletter. If possible, host an event for leadership donors ($1,200+).
- Support United Way events.
Throughout the year, United Way hosts events to engage the community and share impact. As an event sponsor, your company receives several benefits and recognition – including complimentary tickets! - Engage with Emerging Leaders.
Emerging Leaders is United Way’s affinity group for young professionals. They host quarterly events that promote professional development, volunteerism, and networking. They are also actively recruiting for the Ambassadors program! - Help Keep the Blessing Boxes filled.
In February 2026, United Way hosted an inaugural Day of Action to build Blessing Boxes for Cleveland Public Library branches. Filled with household essentials, Blessing Boxes help families access basic necessities. Help us keep them filled by Sponsoring a Kit-Packing Activity or Hosting a Collection - Organize a volunteer activity.
United Way’s Volunteer Portal is here to help you organize a volunteer activity to meet your team’s unique needs! Our guides will help you Set Up a Team and Navigate the Portal.
